The Bakoor Trail starts approximately 40m from the entrance gate on the Langebaan side of the lagoon. This is only a 4.6 km walk and should take less than three hours to complete and this at a very leisurely pace. As one would expect, there are very many photo opportunities and it goes without saying that leaving your camera at home is not an option.
It is also good idea to pack a picnic into your backpack, and just sit somewhere on the trail and suck in the magnificent views. A good place to unpack your picnic at with sweeping views over much of the lagoon is on top of the “hill”, Seeberg. Here is a bench under a shady tree where you can feed your eyes some real “eye candy”.
For your return walk back yo your vechile , you can either walk back the same route that you came up the hill with, or walk back on the road, although this is much less scenic.
Be on the lookout for the red haartebeest, eland, ostriches, tortoises and of course the bat eared fox.
In spring, with the flowers in full bloom I can imagine that the West Coast National Park will be packed to the brim, so to get onto one of the trails, and away from all the other tourists might really be worth considering.
This hike does not have to booked in advance. Do not forget your Wild Card.
